This class provides tools to compute minimum distance between two Shapes"? Not the maximum distance.

Its a great question.
There is no problem to find the minimum, but
a big problem to find the maximum.
No chance ? Have the developers forgotten about max function ?

Maybe you can find what you want with the BRepExtrema_Ext* classes :

BRepExtrema_ExtPF : min and max distance between a vertex and a face
BRepExtrema_ExtPC : min and max distance between a vertex and an edge
BRepExtrema_ExtFF : min and max distance between two faces
...
