WHAT IS GSOC 2020?

Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3-month programming project during their break from school.

WHAT IS OPEN CASCADE?

Since 1999 Open Cascade SAS has been developing Open Cascade Technology library (OCCT) – an open source full-scale 3D geometry library primarily used for the development of specialized software dealing with industrial 3D. Open Cascade is constantly interested in involving independent developers and freelancers to contribute OCCT development. We are excited to collaborate with international students who can take a fresh look and suggest new ideas. On the other hand, we would like to give students a chance to become a part of our team and share our strong experience in the field of 3D. In other words, Open Cascade is always open for beneficially mutual collaboration.

GET FAMILIAR WITH THE CODE

Every student new to OCCT should begin by obtaining the code through our Git repository and performing a first build using build instructions. This instruction ensures consistent build results and eliminates the need to set up your own toolchain.

But first of all, in order to contribute code to OCCT, you also must register on this portal and sign the Contributor License Agreement (CLA). See Contribute to Open CASCADE Technology for the details.

YOUR OWN IDEA

We are eager to hear about your proposal to improve either OCCT or its infrastructure. Come and propose your project on the OCCT developers mailing-list to get feedback about its feasibility. If your project is doable, we will be glad to provide you with a mentor so you can succeed in your project.

Don't forget that OCCT is a big project and application fields are wide. You can choose between application or dll/framework development, or between working on OCCT itself or on extra tools used by developers for their daily work on OCCT. Also if all you prefer is web development, we also have some needs there.
