Multi-threaded Step Model Transfer?

Transferring large documents takes a long time, and I'd like to leverage more CPUs to get the task done faster. It seems like for sufficiently large assemblies the problem can be neatly parallelized.

I can't seem to be able to find an example of multi-threaded .step model transfer. I've tried a couple things myself, and they all cause seg-faults.  Can you point me to some documentation on this, or otherwise give me an example? Thanks in advance.
